Marriage Ceremony

And among His signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquillity with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts). Verily, in that are signs for those who reflect.

-Surah Ar-Rum (30:21)

How it works

Discussion with the Masjid

Contact the Masjid to arrange a date for a meeting about holding your marriage there. The date will depend on availability. Complete the Marriage Application form and bring valid ID to this meeting. You need one form of photo ID for name, age, and nationality.

Giving Notice of Marriage

Both people wishing to marry need to contact their local registry office to set a date for an appointment to give notice of their marriage. This must be done at least 28 days before the wedding. Provide the exact name and address of the Masjid to avoid confusion

Collecting the Marriage Certificate

After 28 days (or 70 days if you are not a UK national), collect your marriage certificate from the registry office. Only one schedule is issued per couple by the superintendent registrar of the district where the marriage will take place. This legal document must be given to the Masjid as soon as possible, as no ceremony can occur without it.

 Pre-Wedding Meeting

The day before or on the day of the wedding, meet with the authorised person to review your details before the ceremony.

Civil Ceremony

The Nikah and civil ceremony can be on separate days, but if held on the same day, the civil ceremony must occur first. The civil ceremony must be at the Masjid and requires at least two witnesses.

Registering the Marriage

The registration office can only register the marriage. The authorised person will return the marriage certificate to the registration office within 21 days of the wedding. After it is registered, the couple can obtain a marriage certificate from the registration office for a small fee.
